# SegWit

## Definition

SegWit, or Segregated Witness, is a Bitcoin protocol change that separates signature witness data from the traditional transaction serialization and introduced transaction weight accounting.

## What it means in practice

SegWit addressed transaction malleability and enabled more efficient use of block capacity, while also supporting native SegWit address formats.

## How this concept appears in Terenval Wallet

Bitcoin wallets such as Terenval may use supported Bitcoin address and transaction formats while the underlying network validates them according to Bitcoin consensus rules.

**Important:** An address format can affect compatibility and fees, so verify that the receiving service supports the Bitcoin address type being used.
