# Proof of Work

## Definition

Proof of Work is the consensus mechanism Bitcoin uses to make block production computationally costly and to select a chain according to accumulated work.

## What it means in practice

Miners repeatedly hash candidate block headers while varying data until a valid hash satisfies the current network difficulty target.

## How this concept appears in Terenval Wallet

Terenval Wallet does not create Bitcoin consensus; it uses the Bitcoin network whose transaction finality and block ordering are secured through Proof of Work.

**Important:** Proof of Work secures consensus but does not protect a user from signing a transaction to the wrong address.
