# Proof of Stake

## Definition

Proof of Stake is Ethereum's consensus mechanism in which validators lock stake and participate in proposing and attesting to blocks.

## What it means in practice

Consensus rewards and penalties are protocol-defined and separate from application-level wallet promotions.

## How this concept appears in Terenval Wallet

Terenval relies on Ethereum's Proof-of-Stake network for transaction ordering and finality but is not itself the consensus protocol.

**Important:** A wallet balance does not automatically participate in staking unless the user explicitly enters a staking mechanism.
