# Genesis block

## Definition

A genesis block is the first block or initial block state of a blockchain from which later chain history is built.

## What it means in practice

Its creation and contents are defined by the network rather than produced through ordinary user transactions.

## How this concept appears in Terenval Wallet

Terenval connects to established supported networks whose chain identity ultimately traces back to their configured genesis state.

**Important:** A chain with a similar name or address format can still be a different network if its genesis and Chain ID differ.
