# Finality

## Definition

Finality is the point or confidence level at which a blockchain transaction or state transition is considered extremely unlikely or impossible to be reversed under the protocol's rules.

## What it means in practice

Different chains and L2s use different notions of soft confirmation, safe state and final settlement.

## How this concept appears in Terenval Wallet

Terenval can display transaction status, but the meaning of finality comes from the selected blockchain or Layer 2 protocol.

**Important:** Do not assume one confirmation has identical finality properties on Bitcoin, Ethereum and every L2.
