# Consensus

## Definition

Consensus is the set of rules and mechanisms a blockchain network uses to agree on valid state, transaction ordering and which history participants should accept.

## What it means in practice

Bitcoin uses Proof of Work, while Ethereum uses Proof of Stake; different systems make different security and finality trade-offs.

## How this concept appears in Terenval Wallet

Terenval relies on the consensus of each supported network for transaction validity and confirmation rather than deciding ledger state itself.

**Important:** A wallet cannot make a transaction final if the underlying network has not accepted it.
