# Clipboard hijacking

## Definition

Clipboard hijacking is malware or malicious software behavior that replaces copied cryptocurrency addresses with an attacker's address before the user pastes them.

## What it means in practice

Crypto addresses are long enough that users may verify only the first or last characters, which attackers can exploit with visually similar destinations.
