# Checksum address

## Definition

A checksum address is an Ethereum-style hexadecimal address whose letter capitalization encodes a checksum that can detect some typing errors.

## What it means in practice

EIP-55 defines a common mixed-case checksum format for Ethereum addresses.

## How this concept appears in Terenval Wallet

Terenval users should still verify the destination and network even when an address passes checksum validation.

**Important:** Checksum validation can catch some typos but cannot prove that the address belongs to the intended recipient.
