# Bitcoin mining

## Definition

Bitcoin mining is the process in which miners assemble candidate blocks, perform Proof-of-Work calculations and compete to produce a valid next block.

## What it means in practice

A successful miner can claim the block subsidy plus eligible transaction fees through the block's coinbase transaction.

## How this concept appears in Terenval Wallet

Terenval Wallet is a user wallet, not mining software; Bitcoin balances and confirmations shown in the wallet depend on blocks produced by the Bitcoin mining network.

**Important:** Mining rewards and wallet balances are separate concepts; ordinary wallet users do not need to mine in order to hold or transfer BTC.
