# BIP-39

## Definition

BIP-39 is a Bitcoin Improvement Proposal that defines a method for representing entropy as a mnemonic sentence and converting that mnemonic, optionally with a passphrase, into a binary seed.

## What it means in practice

BIP-39 explains mnemonic generation and seed derivation; it does not by itself define every address a wallet will display. Derivation standards and wallet-specific account scanning also matter.

## How this concept appears in Terenval Wallet

Terenval's recovery-phrase flows are designed for common mnemonic lengths, while restore compatibility still depends on the original wallet's derivation and account conventions.

**Important:** A valid BIP-39 mnemonic is extremely sensitive recovery material; validity does not make it safe to submit to online 'checkers'.
