# Address poisoning

## Definition

Address poisoning is a scam that places lookalike addresses into a victim's transaction history, hoping the victim later copies the attacker's address instead of the intended one.

## What it means in practice

The attack does not need to break cryptography; it exploits abbreviated address display, transaction-history habits and visual similarity.
